K SHANMUGAM – NSMEN HAVE KEPT S’PORE SAFE FOR YEARS, THANK YOU

Minister of Law and Home Affairs, K. Shanmugam, said yesterday that national servicemen across generations have helped to keep Singapore safe and secure since National Service was introduced in 1967.

He was speaking at the first-anniversary celebration of HomeTeamNS Khatib.

Shanmugam, who is also the chair of the HomeTeamNS board go governors, said that more than 290,000 NSmen have served in the Police Force and the SCDF, with more than 52,000 NSmen remaining active presently.

He also noted that 80% of officers under the Public Transport Security Command are NSFs who help to keep the Singapore public transport system safe.

Addressing the NSmen who have served over the years, Shanmugam said:

“To all NSmen across the generations, thank you for your service, your dedication, your commitment and sacrifices.

You have helped to make Singapore a better home for all who live here. And to your families, thank you for your support for our NSmen.”

Additionally, an NS55 Recognition Package will be given out this year to all NSmen to commemorate the anniversary.
