TANJONG PAGAR CRASH BURN VICTIM BEFRIENDS TUAS EXPLOSION BURN VICTIM

Raybe Oh, a burn victim from the Tanjong Pagar car crash that happened earlier last year, spoke with Shin Min Daily News about how she befriended a fellow burn victim who got injured in the Tuas factory explosion that happened last February.

Oh was severely burned after trying to save her fiance from the burning car that had crashed into a shophouse along Tanjong Pagar.

While her fellow burn victim, Hossain Jitu, was burned after an explosion broke out at a factory in Tuas where three of his co-workers had died.

Oh shared how Jitu was warded at the burn centre of Singapore General Hospital at the same period and how the Bangladeshi worker would always greet her when he passes her room.

She said that his words of encouragement warmed her heart when she was bedridden in hospital, and that her mother would treat him to cakes whenever she paid her a visit.

When Oh got discharged from hospital, she exchanged contact details with Jitu and their friendship lingered on, as she invited him over for a meal.

They then shared about their road to recovery, with Jitu suffering 54% burns on his body, while Oh suffered 80% burns to her body.

Oh is currently well on the road to recovery but still has several minor surgeries upcoming this year, after spending months going through 32 surgeries.

A coroner’s hearing into the Tanjong Pagar accident is due to start of 9 June, according to the Straits Times.
