A student from Singapore Management University attempted to appeal again his sentence but fails to do so.
25-year-old Lee Yan Ru was convicted in 2021 after he molested a woman by rubbing his lower body against a woman in the victim’s study room and sentenced to 10 months in jail along with 3 strokes of the rotan.
According to The Straits Times, Lee admitted in a statement to the Police that he was “purely think with (his) private part”, High Court Judge Chua Lee Ming cite the statement and stated that he has basically admitted to the crime by stating this statement and dismissed the appeal.
Background:
An undergraduate from SMU, Lee Yan Ru, 25-years-old, was convicted of one count of molestation after being accused of rubbing his private parts on a woman on campus back in 2019.
He was sentenced to 10 months imprisonment as well as 3 strokes of the cane, on 25 October.
He was accused of rubbing his kukujiao on the victim as she was lying down on the floor of a campus study room.
The incident happened on 8 January 2019, at around 6.30 AM.
The duo had met for a study session overnight and according to the victim, a 22-year-old woman, she had rejected his advances leading up to the incident, pushing him away and telling him to go away.
She told him to stop, and that his “touch” on her was “more than fleeting”.
Lee argued that she grew comfortable with him and didn’t mind his advances despite her resistance.
Lee then “stimulated himself” while kneeling over the victim while she was asleep, and after that took some tissue to wipe her.
She informed the police at around 630am.
HSA’s DNA profiling lab found that Lee’s bodily fluids was found in the tissue, as well as on the woman’s face and neck.
