Two men were charged and sentenced to jail for assaulting two other men at a taxi stand at Boon Keng MRT station, after mistakenly thinking that they were cutting their queue.
Xie Fubao, 66-years-old; and Chen Taiqing, 59-years-old, pleaded guilty to one charge of voluntarily causing hurt, with the latter facing 4 more charges for gambling at an illegal gathering.
Xie was sentenced to 4 weeks imprisonment, while Chen was jailed 7 weeks and fined $4,000.
The incident happened on 20 November 2020 at about 11.10pm, with the two victims, a 52-year-old Sri Lankan man and a 56-year-old Caucasian man waiting for their private hire car, according to Shin Min Daily News.
The private hire car arrived and the two men were trying to board their ride, when Chen mistakenly thought that they were cutting their queue to get into the taxi.
They got into an argument and Chen then punched the Sri Lankan man in the face, resulting in the man falling down.
Chen then threw a punch to the Caucasian man, who tried to retaliate but missed and eventually ended up on the ground as well.
The two Chinese men then continued to rain blows on the Caucasian man on the ground.
A passer-by witnessed the incident and called the police, who arrived at the scene a short while later, and the Sri Lankan man was found with a bloodied head and sent to the hospital.
He was given 5 days MC and billed $479 for treatment.
The Caucasian man suffered from a bleeding nose and his face was covered in blood as well.
