[Rescue @ 18, Defu Avenue 2]
At about 1.05pm today (27 May), SCDF was activated for a rescue incident involving a man that was trapped under a large metal cylindrical pipe between a trailer and a lorry.
Arriving first at the scene, SCDF firefighters and Emergency Medical Services from Paya Lebar Fire Station immediately conducted an assessment on the trapped man and promptly rendered medical assistance to stabilise him.
Rescuers from the elite Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were also activated, and working together with the fire station crew, they used two air lifting bags to lift the pipe.
An air lifting bag is a thin and lightweight piece of rescue equipment that can be used in confined spaces, where bulkier rescue equipment would not be able to be deployed. When compressed air is filled into the air lifting bag, it expands and enables rescuers to lift, spread or create space between two objects, thereby facilitating the rescue operation.
Once the man was freed, an SCDF ambulance conveyed him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
