Singaporean activist Gilbert Goh shared how he met an elderly woman suffering from a diabetic condition who was bleeding from her chest due to an infected wound.
Here is what he said
Decided to call an ambulance for this elderly whose right breast oozes blood from a serious infected wound towards the end of our meals distribution today.
She also has difficulty walking to the door to receive our meals due to a diabetic condition.
More importantly, she seems to be in pain and need urgent medical treatment.
It’s quite rare that we seek for professional medical support during our charity outreach at the weekly meals distribution event and this phenomenon is more common for the homeless elderly folks who often suffer physically while sleeping rough outside.
We also met up with the son who came home after work midway through the ordeal and we passed him some cash to tide over.
We exchange numbers so that we can get updates on the mother who is now in the expert medical hands of the hospital staff.
The whole team is glad that we took concrete steps to attend to the medical needs of the elderly who is struggling in pain – at least we can sleep peacefully now.
Thanks also to the whole ambulance team who handles the medical plight of the elderly professionally in their stride.
Do something good for Singapore – a charity movement to alleviate the hardships of displaced elderly Singaporeans.
