According to Singapore Customs, an operation was conducted against duty-unpaid cigarettes in the vicinity of Jalan Tepong, Bedok and Fernvale.
The operation resulted in the arrest of 3 China nationals.
Background
In three separate operations conducted on 30 May 2022, Singapore Customs arrested three male Chinese nationals, aged between 36 and 45, for duty-unpaid cigarette offences. Officers seized a total of nine cartons and 36 packets of duty-unpaid cigarettes.
Investigations revealed that the three men had purchased the duty-unpaid cigarettes from social media platforms, which were then delivered to their workplaces or residence.
Two of the men were each issued with a composition sum of $5,000. The remaining man, who had allegedly resold duty-unpaid cigarettes to his colleagues, was charged in court on 1 Jun 2022.
