A resident who resides in Potong Pasir said that road works is operating even in the middle of the night.
He then uploaded a 11-second video (April 18), where noises can be heard every few seconds. Typically a handphone is unable to record noises from such a distance. Meaning the actual volume of the noise that is generated from the construction is even louder than that.
Here is what the netizen said:
Road works with noisy drilling throughout the night along Upper Serangoon Rd near Potong Pasir MRT. Is this allowed? Our sleep is greatly disturbed.
Called NEA but seems they cannot resolve. Really frustrating.

The law
According to NEA noise Control here are the timings and noise level permissible for late at night
55 dBA is equivalent to the noise of a maker.

No-work rule on Sundays and public holidays
In addition to establishing permissible noise limits, NEA has also implemented rules which prohibit work on Sundays and public holidays for construction sites located within 150m of residential premises and noise-sensitive premises.
Here are what netizens think:
- Come to Bishan and stay. Nearer to Marymount Road. The on-going construction of North-South Corridor works are 24 hours round the clock. Then you will likely appreciate what currently happening is just a tiny salt as compared.
- Most probably already given permit to do night works by LTA because its a busy road with alot of traffic during the day. The TPE outside my house had road works done also into the night yesterday
- Likely its urgent works that cant be done during the day due to the road traffic being heavy.
- It’s a common thing. Instead of taking concerned of global warming they should also think of “NOISE WARMING” especially with the daily noises from the non-stopped continuous road repairs, house renovation, carbage trucks and drilling in between blocks of flats and most flats. From 8.30 am right to 6.30pm. Everyday the noise pollution is endless. Today dig, tomorrow patch-up, the next dig and patch-up another dig (the same spot where it was patch up). All complaints fall into deaf years that goes for the HDB too. So don’t complaint but live with it. This is called “The forever young red dot is progressing in development” perpetually, the so called without due consideration of residents. So be it !
