TAXI DRIVER SPIT IN THE FACE BY A WOMAN WHO WAS TOLD TO WEAR MASK

Wearing a mask in public indoor areas is still required as part of the law. However, there will always be some people who refuse to comply.

A Taxi driver had an unfortunate encounter with a woman who not only refuses to wear the mask but also spit in his face after the driver tried to persuade the woman to wear one.

33-year-old Kwek Shu Yong pleaded guilty to two charges of harassment and was fined SGD$3,500.

1 count of breaking COVID-19 rules was taken into consideration for the sentencing.

According to Today News, the incident took place in Woodlands late at night on 15 Nov 2020, the woman boarded the taxi with Tan Geok Koon and both of them did not have a mask on.

During that time of the event, the mask-wearing rule is still required for both indoors and outdoors.

Initially, the driver who told them to wear a mask comply and both of them wore it.

However, Tan later removed his mask and told him to wear it or alight from the vehicle.

Kwek was unhappy with the driver’s instructions and started shouting in a variety of “colourful” languages which consisted of Mandarin, English and other dialects.

She even said that the taxi driver would get beaten up soon for his personality.

The driver took out his mobile phone and started to record the verbal altercation, however, Kwek responded by spitting in the driver’s face.

The driver drove both of them to Sembawang Neighbourhood Police station.

Kwek could have been fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to 6 months for her actions.

Under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020. Penalties include a fine of up to SGD$10,000 and jailed for up to six months.
