A video emerged online showing a girl documenting herself sitting in a 2-seater convertible with two other persons (3 persons inside), and posting her video onto Instagram.
She was seen “squeezing” in the middle, on top of the middle console instead of a seat, without a seatbelt on.
The video shows the girl sitting on the car’s console with her hands in the air as the trio went for a joyride around Sentosa.
She captioned her videos, “HALPS WHAT A JOYRIDE” and “My face numb bro”.
Traffic law
Under the Road Traffic Act (Chapter 276) (Motor Vehicles, Wearing of Seat Belts), the body restraining seat belt shall be worn by the driver and every passenger of a motor vehicle.
Any person who contravenes the rules shall be guilty of an offence and face a fine of up to $1,000 or a jail term of up to 3 months upon conviction, for first time offenders.
It is unclear what are the potential penalties for exceeding the passenger capacity of a vehicle, but Singapore Uncensored understands that it is (likely to be) an offence to sit on the middle console of a vehicle instead of a seat.
