Nicholas Tan Siew Chye, 26 years old, was sentenced to 7 weeks imprisonment on 24 June after pleading guilty to 2 counts of voyeurism on 16 December last year.
The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) student was caught taking an upskirt video of a female victim on campus and was out on bail when he then reoffended.
He has since been suspended by NTU and banned from entering the campus.
First offence
Tan went to his girlfriend’s hall of residence on campus on 19 October 2020 to visit her when he spotted his first victim, a 20-year-old, walking back to her room.
He then followed her as she approached a lift lobby and took out his phone while she waited for the lift.
He then switched on his video camera and squatted down, placing the phone under her dress and aiming the camera up her dress, recording it.
The victim felt him moving close and turned around and saw him move back from his squatting position; worried about her safety, she then left the lobby.
The victim reported the incident to the security at the campus and Tan’s identity was then established through CCTV and he was arrested on 20 October 2020 and released on bail the next day.
Second offence
Tan was on his way home on 25 February 2021 when he saw a 17-year-old girl in school uniform and felt the urge to take an upskirt video of her.
he then followed her to a lift lobby where they took the same lift, and he then squatted down and stretched out his arm with his camera aimed towards her thighs as she was about to exit the lift.
The victim felt him touch her thigh and turned around to yell at him, and a police report was then lodged later that day and Tan was then arrested again on 1 March 2021.
