The Malaysian police weighed the lorry and found that the vehicle was overloaded, with the authorities saying that they are not ruling out the lorry’s breaks failing due to overloading.

The chief of the Johor Bahru South Police District said that the 34-year-old Malaysian driver was driving a lorry carrying lime at the time of the incident, when he suddenly lost control of the vehicle and crashed it through 11 vehicles, included cars, vans and buses.

The president of the Johor Sandstone Lorry Association said that the legal capacity of this type of lorry is about 44 tons, including the weight of the vehicle, but the lorry at the time of the incident was carrying 80 to 90 tons of goods.

He added that when a lorry is overloaded, the mechanical equipment cannot bear the load and loses control due to severe overloading, such as brake failures.
