30-year-old Poh Yu Jian, a Singapore Armed Forces regular, pleaded guilty to voyeurism and was sentenced to 20 weeks imprisonment.
Poh, who is a military medical expert with the SAF, had recorded at least 28 upskirt videos of at least 13 girls (including minors) between September and October 2020.
His modus operandi includes catching the girls at places such as overhead bridges in the vicinity of their schools where he would film them from the bottom of the stairs.
The videos were about one-minute long in duration, with the longest one being 5 minutes when he stalked a girl at Buona Vista MRT station.
Caught redhanded
He ended up being caught redhanded by a 15-year-old girl who noticed him filming her on an MRT station escalator.
He had since been suspended from his duties and is reportedly likely to be terminated by the SAF.
The court heard that Poh had taken at least 28 upskirt videos of at least 13 girls without their consent on at least 13 different occasions in the hopes of seeing their private parts.
The offences occurred at MRT stations, on overhead bridges and on double-decker buses, and he target schoolgirls who were in uniform.
He would follow the victims closely with his phone in hand at his waist and film them with his camera pointing up, with his Samsung Galaxy Note 20.
Police informed
Poh spotted his 15-year-old victim on 15 October 2020 at Stevens MRT station alighting from the train at about 7.30am, where he then stalked and filmed an upskirt video of her by standing behind her on an upwards escalator.
The victim felt a brushing sensation on the back of her knee and saw Poh filming an upskirt video of her, and she then reported the incident to her teacher and the police were then called.
Poh was subsequently arrested on 17 October.
He had also installed an app on his phone to save screenshots and video clips of his upskirt videos for easier viewing, as well as hiding all his upskirt videos and several explicit movies inside a password-protected folder inside his phone.
