4 Y.O AMONG 4 COVID-19 DEATH CASES ON JULY 17

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Tuesday that a 4-year-old girl died of COVID-19 on Sunday (July 17). There were 4 death cases reported on Sunday.

In responses to media enquires from CNA, the Singaporean girl had no previous medical history.

The girl felt unwell and presented herself to a clinic on July 15 and showed signs of upper respiratory tract infection and fever, she was also tested positive for COVID-19 at the clinic.

The girl was prescribed medication but later collapsed on the night of July 17.

This is the second case where a patient below the age of 12 has succumbed to COVID-19.

Previously, a one and a half year boy died from COVID-19 on 27 June 2022.

In a statement released earlier today, MOH said:

“Children are generally more resilient to Covid-19 infections than adults and the elderly. Notwithstanding, Covid-19 infections can result in severe disease amongst children.”

Vaccinations

The Ministry of Health also stated that they are investigating the safety and efficacy of Covid-19 vaccinations for children under the age of five, in collaboration with the Health Sciences Authority and the Expert Committee on Covid-19 Vaccination.
