MOH CONFIRMS 6 LOCAL CASES OF “CENTAURUS” SUBVARIANT IN S’PORE

MOH confirmed 6 local cases of the Omicron BA.2.75 “Centaurus” subvariant on 22 July, with all 6 cases being isolated after being tested positive with mild symptoms.

They were detected through whole genome sequencing, as part of the MOH’s surveillance of the situation.

MOH said that the BA.2.75 subvariant was not on the World Health Organization’s list of variants of concern or interest.

The subvariant, nicknamed “Centaurus”, was first reported in Singapore last week, with Singapore reporting its first two imported cases of the variant.

Both cases had recent travel history to India and self-isolated immediately upon testing positive, and they have since fully recovered.
