My wife says I sound like a grumpy old man, but I refuse to return a phone call if the caller doesn’t leave a message and I do not have their number saved in my contacts.
People have complained that I’m ghosting them, but in my opinion if someone calls and I don’t answer they should only expect a call back if they send me a text, DM, or at least leave some kind of message letting me know they want me to call back.
Otherwise, the ball is still in their court to reach out if they need me. This is especially true if I don’t have their number saved (I assume its a spam call), or if my phone didn’t ring to show a missed call (which happens sometimes).
Yet I often get “hey, I called you but you never called me back” even in those cases where I have no idea they even called.
I’ve gotten in the habit of declining calls but will often drop a text asking if I can call back, and only return a call if they reply.
I just feel that if someone expects me to call back, they need to make sure I know they called and want me to call back.
Am I living in the stone age here, or is this a common expectation?
