The Ministry of Health (MOH) plans to officially launch COVID-19 vaccination booster doses for children aged five to eleven years old, in about 2 months.
According to CNA, Senior Minister of State for Health Janil Puthucheary acknowledged that a third mRNA dose for this age group of children “may be required to at some point to keep protection level high”.
MOH said on Monday 25 July 2022 it aims to have COVID-19 vaccination ready for younger children aged 6 months to four years old towards the fourth quarter of this year 2022.
Two children have so far died from the coronavirus, with a 4-year-old girl dying in July and a 1-year-old dying in June. Currently, children aged five to eleven are eligible for the main vaccination.
Dr Puthucheary said, “The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) is currently studying data submitted by Pfizer/BopNTech and Moderna on the other COVID-19 vaccination for age group 6 months to four years old and will provide an update on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine.”
