31-year-old Yeo Yong Hao was sentenced to 9 weeks imprisonment on 15 August and banned from driving for 1 year and 2 months after his release from prison.
He pleaded guilty to one count of committing a rash act endangering the safety of others as well as using insulting language on a public servant.
He had verbally assaulted an auxiliary police officer who caught him leaving Singapore General Hospital through an unauthorised exit, and hit him with his car twice, resulting in the officer suffering bruises on his left leg.
What happened?
Yeo was at SGH back in April 2021 to pick up his girlfriend’s mother, and he wasted to leave the premises through a glass door that was off-access to the public and could only be opened by hospital staff.
25-year-old Syahmi Rusydi Sobirin, an auxiliary police officer, opened the door with his staff pass and Yeo then followed him.
Syahmi told him to use another exit but it fell on deaf ears, and Yeo then insulted Syahmi and made derogatory comments about him, telling him that he was not a police officer but just a Certis Cisco officer.
Syahmi followed Yeo into the carpark, standing in front of the latter’s car in an attempt to prevent him from leaving, but Yeo drove his vehicle forward and hit the former in the left.
Yeo then did it again, before confronting Syahmi and pressing his horn repeatedly.
Deputy Public Prosecutor said that the “degree of rashness, in this case, is very high and borders on being intentional,” adding that “the accused clearly saw the officer standing in front of the car and knew the officer was telling him to stop.”
