Apple has warned that the company’s iPhones, iPads and imacs have serious security risks that could give attackers complete control over the devices. The tech company acknowledged the issue in its new security report, acknowledging that it was “aware of reports that the issue could be actively exploited.” Security experts say users should update all affected Apple devices.
These include iPhone 6s and later models; several iPads, including all iPad Pros and iPad Air 2s of the fifth generation and later; and Macs running MacOS Monterey. This issue also affects some iPod models.
Rachel Toback, chief executive of SocialProof security, said the company’s explanation for the problem was that a hacker could gain “full administrative access to the device” and “execute any code just like you”.
Apple did not disclose further details about the attack or who carried out the attack. Apple says its latest update provides “important security updates and is recommended for all users.”
The company’s iOS 15.6.1 update comes a few weeks after the release of iOS 15.6.
The vulnerabilities were reportedly reported by anonymous researchers.
“Apple iOS 15.6.1 is an important update,” said independent security researcher Sean Wright, and the vulnerabilities highlighted by Apple “could be chained together to give an attacker full remote access to a victim’s device.”
To upgrade to iOS 15.6.1, go to the “General” tab in settings, then the “Software Update” tab.
