The Malaysian Army issued a statement on 27 August saying that they will make sure this doesn’t happen again but “should it recur”, they will dispatch a standby recovery team to the location as quickly as possible to tow the stricken vehicle away in order to avoid traffic jams.

First incident

The Malaysian Army also explained the breakdowns of their tanks; the PT-91M Pendekar tank had engine issues at about 10.30am on 26 August.

The tank had just finished its exercises for Malaysia’s Independence Day Parade rehearsals, and a recovery vehicle was dispatched at about 11am to tow it back to the National Museum carpark for repair work.

Second incident

The second incident happened on 27 August at about 11.26am, with a prime mover encountering engine problems in the middle of the road in front of the National Museum.
