41-year-old Wang Shu, the director of a wholesale trading firm, was found to have imported undeclared food products without a valid import permit in July 2020, when ICA officers at the Pasir Panjang Scanning Station, Ports Command detected anomalies in the scanned images of a 40-foot container from China.
The case was then referred to the SFA for investigation.
She was supposed to be fined for the food-related offences, when she then threatened to falsely accuse an SFA officer, who was handling her case, of molesting her.
She was sentenced on Monday 12 September to 4 weeks imprisonment for threatening to accuse the man of molesting her, as well as being fined $5,000 for her food-related offences from 2020, which includes illegally importing salted duck eggs and meat products.
What happened?
After the undeclared food products were discovered by the ICA officers, the case was referred to SFA for follow-up investigations.
On 20 October 2020, an SFA officer and two colleagues visited Wang’s office at Pandan Loop to investigate and asked her to provide her statement about the incident.
Wang agreed to provide her statement and brought the officers into a room beside her office for the interview, and a check was then conducted on her phone by the officers, who found incriminating messages.
Wang then became uncooperative towards the officers and wanted to end the interview, two of the officer’s colleagues left the room to avoid agitating her further, while he stayed behind to calm her down.
Wang refused to calm down and the officer then ended the interview, and as he was packing up his belongings, Wang asked him to hand over the statement that she partially recorded, but the officer rejected her request.
Wang then got up from her seat and stood in front of the room’s door, closing and locking it while holding onto the door knob, blocking the officer from leaving.
She then threatened the officer, saying that if he refuses to hand over the statement that she partially recorded, she would shout molest.
The officer then gave the statement to Wang because of the threat, and she then tore the statement up before allowing the officer to leave.
As for Wang’s illegally imported meat products, ICA, SFA and the Singapore Police Force said in a joint statement that Wang had illegally imported about 36kg of food products, including beef jerkies, sausages and salted duck eggs, which were all seized.
Wang had also advertised the illegally imported meat products on her Facebook account to try and sell them.
