After the launch of a new product from Apple on the night of September, Apple’s newest iPhone 14 phone is a highly desired device in Thailand.
Shortly after the prices were released a clinic released a “meme image” of three people holding to an iPhone and there all had red patches near the kidney area.
This depicts how some people would try to sell organs and use the money to buy an iPhone.
Thai Red Cross
The meme went viral across the world and Thai Red cross has since responded to it.
Dr. Sophon Mekthon, Director of the Thai Red Cross Society Organ Donation Center provided information on such cases and stated that selling organs is impractical. It is illegal, while a living kidney transplant must be donated by a direct relative, such as a parent donating to a child.
The Thai Red Cross is in charge of organ donation services. Confirm that there is no trade
Dr. Sophon said For organ donation by the Thai Red Cross Society, there are 3 groups:
1. Donating body for medical students.
2. Organ donation such as heart, liver, and kidney, which must be expressed intent to donate while alive.
3. Donate eyes. It must be an organ from a cardiac arrest or brain death. The hospital would ask relatives if they would like to donate organs as a final merit to the deceased or not.
“There is no trading, it can’t be done at all. Organs are traded inappropriately, inaccurate, especially to buy iPhones, even more incorrectly. It is not morally and ethically correct,” said Dr. Sophon.
