Singer Jackson Wang, from the boyband GOT7, had a live stream on Chinese social media platform Douyin recently, and had to end his stream twice because his face reportedly kept buying him gifts with real money.
Wang didn’t know why there were filters appearing on his screen and was later told that they were presents that his fans had spent real money on, with each present having monetary value that the receiver can exchange into cash.
Wang then got shocked and exclaimed “oh no no no, oh my god!” before cutting the stream off.
He then went onto another Chinese social media platform, Weibo, and continued his live stream after telling his fans “I don’t want gifts, please don’t do that.”
He then asked his staff to turn off the gifting function on the app, but was told that even if it was disabled, the fans could still send him gifts.
He then reportedly got annoyed and asked his staff, “what do we do now? Why are you only telling me about this now?”
Wang then cut off his live stream again, before resuming it a while later and reminding his fans to stop wasting money and buying him gifts, and to mind their health.”
