The incident happened near a block of flats in Aljunied on 21 September at around 9am.

The deceased had been inside his van for 6 hours, arousing the suspicions of a nearby furniture shop owner, who called the police. Another passer-by went to check on the driver inside the van, and found that he had died inside his vehicle.

The police are currently investigating the case.

SMDN reported that the incident took place at 119 Aljunied Avenue 2, at an outdoor carpark, and that the newspaper vendor had parked his vehicle there, probably to prepare for his goods.

The owner of a nearby grocery shop, Mr Zhang, told SMDN that he went down to take a look when he heard about a driver who had been inside his vehicle for a long period of time with the aircon still running.

He then tapped on the man’s window but got no response, before discovering that the door was unlocked and found that he wasn’t breathing.

A woman who is presumably the deceased’s wife, later arrived at the scene, holding him for 10 minutes as she cried out “why did you have to leave this way?”

The police soon arrived at the scene, and the grocery shop owner’s mother then tried to comfort the wife, who was visibly grieving.

The police also checked the CCTV footage from a nearby clothing shop, showing that the deceased has not left his van throughout.
