MAN BOUGHT $3 WATCH STRAP AT M’SIA NIGHT MARKET, FINDS GOLD WORTH S$2.2K

Facebook user Mohamad Kitartech shared online about how he bought a watch strap for $3 at a Malaysian night market and found gold in the strap worth $2,275.

he shared that he bought the watch strap at the Pasar Karat in Johor Bahru, which is a short distance away from the Causeway.

He then brought the strap home and weighed it on a scale, which showed that it weighed 41.44 grams.

Kitartech then removed the brackets on the watch strap and weighed it again, this time showing that it weighed 28.6 grams.

The man then performed an acid test (to test the pureness of gold) by scratching a sample of it against a black stone to form lines, before applying nitric acid to the lines to see the remainder of gold compared to the dissolved metals.

He said that he found 24.91 grams of 999 gold, which is the purest form of gold with a content of 99.9% gold unmixed with other metals; as well as another 3.7 grams of 750 gold.

Another Facebook netizen helped him to calculate how much money he “found”, valuing his gold at RM7,500 (SGD$2,275).

Another netizen then asked him how much he paid for the strap, to which he replied that he only paid RM10 for it (SGD$3).
