Instagram was down all over the world for many users, who were also reportedly told that their accounts have been suspended and locked.
Instagram announced on their @InstagramComms account on Twitter that they were aware of the users’ reported issues with accessing their accounts and apologised.
The issue appeared to be a technical one, instead of accounts being actually banned – as some users reported not being able to access their accounts after being told that they had broken Instagram’s rules.
Some users also reportedly saw their number of followers dip significantly, presumably because of the huge number of accounts being “suspended”.
Instagram said that they are looking into the problem and apologised for the inconvenience, although they stopped short of mentioning when the problem will be fixed.
