MAN SAYS HIS WORKPLACE IS CONTROLLED BY LAZY BOOMERS, OLD IS NOT GOLD

A team controlled by lazy boomers gen

I just joined this team this year. Truly learnt alot this year after being in the same area of work for over 10yrs.

However I realised 6mths into this job, it’s not abt how u perform. It’s more about how u could do others’ job for them. And the ‘them’ i am referring – the boomers generation. Those borned in late 60s. It seemed like they are in semi-retirement mode.

They will try to push everything you or only react when things happen.

By pushing duties, they put it that they are grooming the younger generation.

Leaving early and always taking breaks during office hours.

This is all BS

I ended up gathering alot of BAU stuff and i have currently about 4 projects at hand. Having to complete the BAU tasks is already mental draining and i still have to answer for my projects progression. Most of the tasks are new to me as i just took over from someone who just resigned.

How about my boss? Knows nuts. Always having new ideas and throw to the ground. Gathering so many projects and no cover if the person is on leave. I was reprimanded for going on mc when the main lead (one of the boomer) was on leave. Even when i had covid, daily phonecalls in the morning to find out if i can still work.

What kind of nonsense? Is this even allowed?

So is this my boss management’s issue or just the environment?

Here are what netizens think:

  • They probably went through the same thing. It could simply be cultural. If you’re not up for it, leave.
  • Why don’t you call MOM and understand what’s permitted and not in the workplace? At the meantime, you can start looking into other companies to work in.. perhaps working with those of the same generation may be easier for you.
  • from your description…i guess u joined an SME?
