AMK CENTRE TO BE UPGRADED THIS YEAR, TOWN CENTRE & SWIMMING COMPLEX TO BE IMPROVED

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said yesterday during a development plan exhibition event in Ang Mo Kio that there will be upgrades made to the town centre of Ang Mo Kio and the swimming complex among other upgrades.

He said that “every year, we refresh our plans, we roll out ideas for new homes, improve schools, new parks, new cycling ways, new facilities, keeping everything up to date but this is a work which never ends.”

Among the improvements to be made are the upgrades to the town centre, which will be made more barrier free and accessible for the wheelchair-bound.

More sheltered rest stops and shade will be provided with more trees to be planted and landscaped.

The swimming pool at Avenue 1 will also be made into an ActiveSG park, and a shelter will also be added to the lap pool, along with a gym, studios, futsal and multipurpose courts.

PM Lee added that they will also work with the shops and make it a nice place for people to shop by upgrading the shopfronts and facades.

Works on the Cross Island Line is also underway and it will enhance the transport connectivity in Ang Mo Kio.

Work on the upgrades will tentatively begin after Chinese New Year, and should take between 12 to 15 months to complete.
