28 Y.O WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ALLEGEDLY IMPORTING FAKE GOODS WORTH $47K

A 28-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly trying to smuggle more than 600 counterfeit items into Singapore with a street value of more than $47,000.

On 15 January, officers from the Immigrations and Checkpoints Authority intercepted a batch of goods with more than 50 bottles of perform from another country.

The Singapore Police Force and the Singapore Customs were then alerted and officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) then commenced an investigation.

They raided several locations in Singapore and the 28-year-old woman was then arrested.

More than 600 pieces of allegedly “trademark-infringing goods” including perfumes, apparel and stationery sets were seized by the officers during the 14-hour operation.

At the time of writing, police investigations are ongoing.

Potential penalties

Persons found guilty of selling or distributing goods with falsely applied trademarks face a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to 5 years, under the Trade Marks Act.

The Singapore Police Force said that they take a serious video of intellectual property rights infringement and would like to remind the public that the importation, distribution and sale of counterfeit goods are serious offences.

They added that they will not hesitate to take tough action against perpetrators who profit at the expense of legitimate businesses and consumers.
