Please do not sign up with UOB and if you are a current UOB customer, I will advise you to change your bank account immediately to avoid being in a situation like mine.
This whole incident reflects very badly on UOB BANK and pertains to the transactions done without an OTP being triggered a few weeks back through my Krisflyer Credit Card.
The Krisflyer Credit Card was less than a month old.
Through investigations, I was notified that my UOB Krisflyer Credit Card was added to a mobile device with a verified OTP on 7th December 2022 at 1:31PM.
I was at work and I barely noticed.
On 9th December 2022, 10.20pm 2 transactions without any OTP were made to ENHASA GAMES (634 BEDOK RESERVOIR ROAD #12-13 EUNOS TENAGA VILLE SINGAPORE (410634)). This company is known for selling game accounts. In other words, the scammer had used my card to make 2 separate purchases within 5 mins.
I was sleeping then. My sleep was disrupted due to the ringtone coming from my phone and I immediately blocked the Krisflyer Credit Card through my UOB TMRW app.
Upon blocking, I called the call center to file a scam case. I was told that the investigations will be done.
No updates were given to me until later part of December 2022, UOB call center then asked me to make a police report as the transaction was legitimate and asked me to send in the police report to [email protected] on
Fri, Dec 16, 2022, 11:33 AM .
I had made several calls to the call center in regards to the updates of the case and in mid-Jan 2023, I was told that they will change this case from “scam” to “fraud”. I was told that all bank accounts and cards have to be blocked to prevent the scammer from using any other funds.
I mentioned that I am traveling to Bangkok for 2 weeks in 2 days’ time and my accounts are to be blocked without notice? The guy from the call center mentioned that UOB UOB Cards will not be liable for any further scams that take place with my accounts and cards if I did not do so. The investigation will take 90 days to 1 year from this day of blocking.
My question then was, I am a Singaporean and I have been scammed in USD for something I have not done. I don’t play games as well. I only have 1 bank account and you are blocking it without a good valid reason. So you clearly knew I have been scammed so shouldn’t UOB revert the transaction?
Later that day after blocking, I was told that they will get back to me by 28th Jan 2022. Days after this blocking, my ibanking was also blocked and I am unable to access it.
I am the one being scammed and so much inconvenience is causing my life like late payments and having no money to use etc…
UOB called me in Feb and asked me to pay up or there will be late charges and interest incurred to me.
So my question to them is, you blocked all my access and my accounts are under investigation. How am I supposed to pay when I have only 1 bank account and I am unwilling to pay the amount. Likewise, my UOB TMRW cannot be accessed at all and I was then asked to head down to a branch to get my access.
On the 15th of Feb, I went down to UOB Bishan Branch to make a report, to get my UOB TMRW access, and asked to unfreeze my accounts so I will be able to withdraw all funds and then close down my account. I was unable to, the branch manager mentioned that it is done by the call center and I can only unfreeze it by calling in.
I told her that it takes ages to get someone to answer my phone call and she then told me that she will write in on my behalf.
On 22 Feb 2023, UOB call center called me and told me that they will be giving me a 40% goodwill discount if I were to pay up or I can continue to file for a dispute at the finance sector, till then they will not provide any goodwill discount to me.
Hello? I have been scammed and the lady behind the call threatened me to pay up.
After this, i made a second police report of this threat and told my relationship manager, Ray from UOB that I demand a 100% revert as I did not make such a transaction.
Both UOB and Singapore Police Force should look into this more carefully and I was told that UOB compliance did not contact my investigation officer before making such a decision.
UOB Why should I be paying for something I did not buy? The verdict to make payment was made immediately without any contact with our Singapore Police Force and only through your so-called compliance team?
Is this right to block off all my bank accounts and cards when only 1 card had been misused? Then send me new cards when I cannot even have any access to UOB?
Terrible and makes no sense.
