When I got married to the love of my life, the last thing I expected was for her to tell me to find a lawyer to make a will in case I die.
I was overjoyed and even a bit overwhelmed as I had never thought of something like that before.
At first, I thought it was a bit morbid, but then I realized this was actually a very wise decision. After all, no one knows when they are going to pass away, and it’s important to make sure your family and loved ones are taken care of in the event of your death.
When I got married, I was filled with joy and excitement, but now I was faced with the sobering reality of the fragility of life. Making sure my wife was taken care of if something were to happen to me was my top priority.
I started researching different types of wills and estate planning options. I soon realized that there were a variety of different ways to make sure my wife was taken care of financially in the event of my death.
The first option I researched was a “joint will”. This is a will that is created by both spouses. All of the assets are divided equally between the two of them upon death. It ensures that the surviving spouse will have access to the deceased spouse’s assets.
The second option I looked into was a ”living will”. This is a document that outlines a person’s wishes in terms of medical care. It can be used to provide clear instructions on how they want to be treated if they become incapacitated or unable to make decisions for themselves.
The third option was a ”last will and testament”. This is a legal document that outlines a person’s wishes regarding their possessions and estate. It includes instructions on how to distribute assets upon death.
Finally, I also researched ”trusts”. This is a legal document that allows a person to designate a trustee to manage their assets and distribute them according to their wishes.
After researching these options, I decided to consult with a lawyer to make sure I was making the best decision. The lawyer was able to explain the different types of wills and estate planning options in detail, and helped me choose the one that was the best fit for my situation.
I ended up creating a living will and a last will and testament. I also created a trust to ensure that my wife would have access to my assets should something happen to me.
Making these decisions was not easy, but I am glad I did it. I know that my wife will be taken care of and my wishes will be carried out even if I am not here to make sure that happens.
