Growing up in poverty is no easy feat. It’s not about the lack of money, it’s about the lack of opportunities and the feeling of helplessness that accompanies it.
For me, growing up in a single-parent household in the 1980s in meant that I had to make something of myself if I wanted to escape the cycle of poverty.
Working as a cabin crew ‘saved’ me from poverty
I never thought I’d get the chance to break away from it, until I was offered a job as a cabin crew for an airline
At first, I was hesitant to take the job. I had no experience flying and I was afraid of the unknown. It took a lot of convincing from my family and friends for me to accept the offer.
However, I soon realized that this could be a stepping stone to a better life and I decided to take the plunge.
Working as a cabin crew proved to be a life-changing experience. It was a job that allowed me to travel the world and see things that I never thought I could see.
I had the opportunity to meet people from different cultures and backgrounds and learn more about the world. Being able to do this was a privilege that I never thought I would have and I was grateful for the opportunity.
But more importantly, the job provided a steady stream of income which allowed me to save up for the future. I was able to get out of poverty and provide a better life for myself and my family. I was able to buy a house and put my siblings through school.
Most importantly, I was able to provide stability for my family and give them a future that was brighter than the one I had growing up.
Took me a lot of dedication, but we are all more well off now
It took a lot of hard work and dedication for me to be able to make the most out of my job. I had to learn the basics of flying, such as safety protocols, cabin regulations, and customer service.
I also had to learn how to manage my time effectively so that I could balance my work and personal life.
I am thankful for the opportunity that I was given to work as a cabin crew It has provided me with the opportunity to break free from poverty and provide a better future for my family.
It has also allowed me to learn more about the world and meet people from different backgrounds. It has been a life-changing experience and I am forever grateful for it.
