In his latest Facebook post, Lee Hsien Yang, the brother of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that his sister, Lee Wei Ling is ‘extremely unwell’.
Diagnosed in 2019 with ‘serious illness’
Lee Wei Ling was diagnosed with a rare brain disorder in 2019 which according to her Facebook post, starts with a Parkinson’s-like illness that will slow down physical movements, impairs fast eye movements and balance which will result in tendencies to fall over.
As the condition worsens, difficulty swallowing, choking aspiration, pneunomia will follow and it will lead to the inevitable death.
Said that he might not come be able to meet his sister personally again
After Lee Wei Ling was diagnosed with the illness, Lee Hsien Yang said that he was glad that he could bring her to Machu Picchu just before the pandemic struck in 2020.
It was a place where Lee Wei Ling always wanted to visit.
He then mentions that she is now ‘extremely unwell’, and it pains him that he might not be able to see her face to face again.
Here is the extract of his Facebook post
“Wei Ling never married and, because we are close, it fell on my shoulders to look after her after our father passed away in 2015.
In 2019, she was diagnosed with a serious illness. I was so glad that just before Covid in 2020, I was able to take her to Machu Picchu, a place she had always wanted to visit.
She is now extremely unwell. It pains me beyond words that I am unlikely ever to be able to see my sister face to face again.”
