44-year-old Mickail Abdul Razak, a former actor in Singapore, pleaded guilty to one count of advertising illegal products in Singapore and six counts of either selling or offering to sell them, according to The Straits Times.
He was fined $13,000 on 9 March for his offences, with 25 other similar charges being considered during his sentencing.
He had used his Instagram account to sell vaporisers and was caught by an officer from the Health Sciences Authority (HSA) on December 19, during an online surveillance of e-cigarette sellers.
Mikhail had offered to sell multiple illegal products to an HSA officer who was undercover.
He had posted an advertisement relating to the illegal vapes on his Instagram account back in October 2019, where keen buyers could chat with him in order to buy the goods from him.
On 20 December 2019, Mikhail sold two vape devices to an Instagram user for $66 and $80 each.
Later that day, he then handed over other illegal tobacco products to what he thought was a customer but was in fact an undercover HSA officer who eventually identified himself.
Mikhail then had his car and home searched by the officer, where related vape paraphernalia and e-cigarettes were found and seized.
He then confessed to making some sales of the illegal goods and earning between $2,500 to $3,000.
The former Suria actor said in court that he committed the offences in 2019 at a time when he was desperate, and said during his mitigation that he was a “different person” now.
He was allowed to pay $6,500 of the fine first, with the rest of the amount to be paid via instalments.
