The woman, who is 6 months pregnant, was then arrested by the police after her friend was beaten to death by the thugs.

Background

The woman, identified by news media as “Jihan,” had given her 35-year-old friend Haricapri Sihombing a loan of RP2 million (SGD$170) for him to bail his cousin out of jail.

The man had initially asked to borrow RP3 million (SGD$260) but she didn’t have enough.

He promised to pay her back the money if he couldn’t manage to bail his cousin back, but some time passed and Jihan never got her money back, nor did she see any signs of the man’s cousin.

Wanting revenge, Jihan called her own cousin Doni, who gathered a few people to find Haricapri.

On 25 December 2022, Haricapri was assaulted by 5 thugs at 3 different locations – they called his family at the second assault location and blackmailed them into paying back the money.

They told his family that if the money was not returned, Haricapri would be “hit”.

The family then transferred RP1 million (SGD$87) to Jihan, but the thugs continued attacking Haricapri and brought him to the third location.

Witnesses reported the incident(s) to the police and by the time the police arrived, Haricapri was found with a serious head injury.

He had been hit on the head by a wooden beam and was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injury about 3 days later on 28 December 2022.

His skull had been “ruptured”, which resulted in his death.

A CCTV recording that captured the assault was shared and circulated on social media.

The three assailants were arrested, along with Jihan who was identified as the suspected mastermind, and they are being charged.

The Indonesian police are also still looking for three other suspects, who are still at large.
