What to do when helper acting up?

Last August, my family got a transfer helper to support my mother through her chemotherapy. Her duties were simple. Mostly surrounding taking care of my mother.

Since her niece came to Singapore to work at a hospice in December, we noticed a change in her attitude. She would constantly cry saying she misses her children (and she’s the only breadwinner in her family)

But recently I found out that she has been threatening my mother especially on her chemotherapy days that she will go to MOM to report us for ill treating her and denying her enough rest.

To clarify, we have done nothing of that sort. We let her roam around outside for 2 hours a day under the guise of buying groceries (supermarket is a 15min walk) and let her sleep in the afternoon when she had nothing to do, to avoid her emotional outbreaks.

I’m frustrated as i just found out her threats to my mother recently, and my brother called me a racist when i shared with him my fears of the possibilities of unpleasant things happening to my mother. What should I do? .

1. Call the agency and have her replaced. Never compromise on safety, especially when family members are concerned.
2. Ask her what she really wants. Let her tell you instead. It’s hard to second guess a person.
3. First red flag, transfer without agency? Why was she transferred without an agency? Normally if she’s a good worker they’ll want to keep her in the family unless really change in circumstances, in which case they’ll still put up a good referral for her through an agency.
4. Cannot give chance. Terminate & send back or request agency for replacement. My transfer helper was hired thru agency – yours isn’t ah? Then go back to the middle man who helped you hire and claim this helper is a siao lang
5. It won’t be good for your mum’s mental and emotional well being to have these kind of helpers around, especially when she’s undergoing chemotherapy now.
   Just send this one back and employ a fresh one from overseas. Transfer helpers seem to more demanding from my experience.
