The 26-year-old said in his defence that he was being followed by a spirit, and said that he entered the female toilet under the spell of the spirit.

He added that he couldn’t remember the details of the incident because his mind was “blank” at the time.

What happened?

Chua and two other male coursemates had ended their lessons at the unit on 12 March 2019, at about 4.30pm, and they made their way to a male toilet after passing by a female toilet.

The two coursemates said that they left the male toilet first and Chua then caught up with them a few minutes later, he was alone during this the 30 seconds to 3 minutes his coursemates left him.

The victim said that she was showering at about 4.45pm, and about 10 minutes later she heard the main toilet door open.

She then turned to face the cubicle door about 5 to 10 seconds later and saw a mobile phone from the top right-hand side of the door, facing upwards.

She froze before shouting “OI” and saw the phone moving downwards and disappearing from her sight, and she then heard the main toilet door open and close.

She then dried herself and got dressed in less than 5 minutes before leaving the cubicle, and didn’t see the trespasser as the person had already fled.

She then reported the incident to her superiors and described the phone that she saw, before reporting the incident via a police report.

Testifying in court, the victim said that she felt humiliated, before breaking down and crying when she was asked to recall how she felt at the time.
