“我真的很不开心 (I am really unhappy). I have no income since the closure of Sungei road market. For the last week, I have gone to Toa Payoh, Ang Mo Kio, Chinatown to look for suitable places to sell my wares. A fellow Sungei road market vendor has been helping me. No luck so far. The rent is beyond what i can afford. They are charging $50-60 a day, and there are restrictions on what we can sell. On a good month, I made $500-600 a month in Sungei road.
These few days have been hectic. It is not helping my stomach problem that I have been suffering from for the last 10 years. This is also the reason I left my job as a hawker assistant and turned to Sungei road market. There, I was comfortable sitting at the stall making some small money for my expenses. My father was a vendor there too and I started by helping him.
Now I eat more simply. Some fried vegetables and eggs. No eat out and stay at home. The future is worrying. I really hope the government can give us a new location to help us make a living.”#displacement #relocatesungeiroadmarket#vendorsofsungeimarket #brokenricebowl
