Beijing-based diplomat Bander Yahya A Alzahrani, 39, was find guilty of 3 charges of sexual assault after an eight-day trial, during which he said that the victim had collaborated with other hotel staff to put the blame on him and force money from him.

District Judge Lee Poh Choo overruled Alzahrani’s defence, finding that the victim had no motive to dishonestly involve him. On the different, the victim’s account had to be “dragged out” of her, as she was troubled the affair would be “understood destructively”, and that she would be seen as “inappropriate for the hotel industry”, the judge said.

The court received that on Aug 14 last year, Alzahrani restricted the intern in the restroom of his Sentosa hotel room, where he sexually mugged her for about 15 minutes.

He controlled the victim by embracing her, before feeling her, smooching her face and neck and rubbing himself against her. He also forced her to touch him.
