ROYAL RUMBLE AT ORCHARD MRT, TWO MEN FIGHTING

On May 12, 2023, a video of a fight between two men on an SMRT train in Singapore surfaced online.

The video showed the two men throwing punches and grappling with each other while other commuters looked on. One man could be heard saying in Mandarin that he did not want to fight.

According to a witness, the fight lasted about two minutes and continued even after the men left the train.

According to Mothership, The police were alerted to the incident and arrested two men aged 33 and 35 for affray.

Investigations are ongoing.

Public fighting

According to Chapter 224 of the Penal Code, anyone who disturbs public peace by fighting in public is guilty of committing an affray. Upon conviction, offenders could face a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to $5,000, or both.

According to Chapter 321 of the Penal Code, anyone who performs an act that causes hurt to a person is guilty of Voluntarily Causing Hurt.

Upon conviction, offenders could face a jail term of up to 3 years and/or a fine of up to $5,000.

For first-time offenders, the offence of disorderly behaviour is punishable under Section 20 of the Miscellaneous Offence (Public Order and Nuisance) Act with a fine up to $2,000, imprisonment term of up to six months, or both. Upon second or subsequent convictions, individuals are liable for a fine up to $5,000, imprisonment up to 12 months, or both.
