A video emerged online showing an SMRT bus captain taking both his hands off the steering wheel while driving to eat and use his phone.
The incident was witnessed and recorded by a passenger who was on board the bus at the time of the incident, when he saw the shocking and dangerous behaviour of the driver.
The netizen who posted the video captioned it: “Bus Captain caught not holding onto steering wheel multiple times and using phone while driving on the expressway.”
A warning was also attached to the TikTok video by the social media platform, saying that “participating in this activity could result in you or others getting hurt”.
In the video, the bus captain was seen holding on to the steering wheel with one hand and his other hand holding onto his phone that he was using while driving, before keeping it in a side compartment.
He was also seen with both his hands off the steering wheel as he took out a snack to eat.
STOMP reported that the bus captain has since been suspended pending further investigations.

- While I understand that people are attacking the guy who took the video instead of just reminding him, bus driver deserves punishment as he is putting people’s lives at risk. I don’t think he’ll lose his job but then again, this is a BIG NO on the occupation.

- All bus driver who have been driving for many years has forgotten what they have signed and SOP they needed to follow . As such they have to go back to resit their license and bar from driving for a short period of time so they can go for holiday with no pay leave . Only by doing so they know the next time their licence will be terminated
- Why is there such a fuss over it? What about commuters who are romancing on public transports and talking very loudly?
