He is being accused of driving a police car without reasonable consideration for other motorists during an accident involving a motorcycle that resulted in the 39-year-old motorcyclist suffering from a fracture in his right foot as a result, although it was not revealed in the court documents how the accident occurred.

On 8 October 2022 at about 8.50 pm, Liong was driving a police car along Choa Chu Kang North 5 at the time and he allegedly didn’t give way to the victim’s motorcycle, who was riding straight from the opposite direction of the road.

Liong was purportedly making a right turn at the time during a green light at the road junction when the accident took place.

The Singapore Police Force said that following the accident, the police officer immediately rendered assistance to the victim and called for an ambulance, and he was sent to the hospital conscious.

A spokesperson for the Singapore Police Force said that their officers are expected to maintain the highest standards of conduct and uphold the law, and they deal with law-breaking officers accordingly, including charging them in court.

They added that the police began investigations against Liong, but are unable to comment further because the case is still ongoing.

ST reported that Liong is set to be pleading guilty to his alleged offences on 30 June next month.

Not the only traffic accident involving police vehicle(s)

Earlier this week, a 26-year-old sergeant who was attached to Bedok Police Division at the time, Johann Pak Zhuo-En, was sentenced to three months imprisonment and banned from driving for 5 years after pleading guilty to driving without reasonable consideration to other road users.

Pak was driving a police van on August 2020 when it got into an accident with a motorcycle that saw the 44-year-old motorcyclist suffering a severe brain injury.
