A group of Gurkha Contingent officers were driving along Woodlands Industrial Park on 25 March when they noticed a cyclist who was lying down on the road unconscious.
They rushed over to the cyclist and realised that he had no pulse, before performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man.
They called an ambulance at the same time and the man was then brought to the hospital – and they later learned that he had survived his ordeal.
The Singapore Police Force commended the Gurkhas’ quick thinking that saved the man’s life.

Man Kumar (K): In the late morning of 25 Mar 2023, my team and I were driving in the vicinity of Woodlands Industrial Park.
Sabin (S): While driving, I spotted what appeared to be a cyclist lying on the road. He looked to be unconscious. We all sensed that there was something amiss.
Dinesh Limbu (D): We quickly stopped our vehicle and dashed over to him.
Jeevan Gharti (J): The cyclist was unresponsive to our calls. When Dinesh and I checked for his pulse, we found out that there was no breathing.
K: We realised that this was a matter of life and death. I instructed Dinesh and Jeevan to quickly perform CPR on him.
D: Although all of us are trained in CPR, it was my first time doing it in a real life scenario. All I could think about was how to save this person’s life.
K: As I was giving a call to the ambulance, Sabin ensured safety by blocking the road lane and directing traffic.
S: We also helped to move the cyclist to a shaded grass patch nearby and continued to perform CPR.
J: The ambulance soon arrived and he was conveyed to the hospital. We later learned that the cyclist had survived and was eventually discharged.
K: I feel very proud of my team. We handled a critical situation effectively.
D: Protecting lives and properties are always key objectives in our missions.
K: We are just happy that we are able to save a precious life. I hope he is recovering well!
