EMPLOYEE GAVE NOTICE TO RESIGN, BOSS WANTS HER TO STAY UNTIL THEY FIND A REPLACEMENT

Boss retaliating because I refuse to extend my notice

Advertisements

I work in an industry where it’s really hard to find people to work and I’ll be career switching to something else. I submitted my notice a while ago and is close to finishing the notice period.

Boss wants me to do her a favour by working until she finds a replacement but I refused and now she’s being passive aggressive and bad mouthing me to other colleagues, saying I promised her to do it and changed my mind.

Is it safe to say I can just slack and do a shiddy job because I likely won’t use this job as a reference anyway?

Netizens’ comments

  1. Publicly correct anyone who ask you about it and publicly ask her why she is spreading false rumors and for her to stop lying. You are under no obligation to extend your last tenure just because the company cmi in replacing you fast enough. If they are willing to pay for a replacement, it’s possible to find one faster.
Rather than do a shiddy job, just do the minimum instead. Tbh no reason you should be handling much work at this point when you’re fast approaching your last day.
  2. just don’t tell her for which company or industry you gonna switch to.
  3. Mention to your boss Section 108 of the Singapore Employment Act.
    Wrongful detention of employee
    108. Any employer who without reasonable excuse, the proof of which is to lie on the employer, refuses to allow an employee whose contract of service has been determined in any of the ways provided in this Act to leave the employer’s service shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 6 months or to both, and the whole or any portion of any fine recoverable under this section may be adjudged by the court to be paid to the employee.
  4. Don’t stoop to her level please, have some professional pride and don’t behave in a way which may validate her bad mouthing of you. Just do what you reasonably can until your last day and leave.
  5. do your job properly, because it reflects on you. confront her — the truth is, no one is obliged to extend their notice period especially when the notice period is stipulated in black and white, and especially when it’s not in their favour. ignore those who think badly about you because you are secure in your own conduct and it shouldn’t affect you. the truth always prevails.
what goes around comes around. do your job properly, action speaks louder than words as action is the only truth. your colleagues will be able to come to the true conclusion themselves. people go so far as to spread rumours or speak badly about you when those statements are not rooted in truth, do it to lie to themselves, not others. it would be foolish and unwise of your superior to think that people won’t see past the ridiculous claims.
as with many things in life, the liar lies only to themselves, people see them or they eventually will. you do you, and she’ll have to pay the piper.
