GIRL GOT JOB OFFER, ASK FOR TIME TO THINK BUT REJECTED, COMPANY GIVE HER 3 DAYS TO ANSWER

Managing job offer

If a hiring manager offer u the job and asked u to give them an answer in the next 3 days where the next 3 days are public holiday.

What do I do if I need more time to consider and is expecting other interviews? Was told to acknowledge the email to accept the offer by Sunday.

I have tried asking for an extension but was rejected and they firmly said that I need to give them an answer by Sunday as they want to know it when they are back in the office on Monday morning.

Is there a way to ‘accept’ the offer first and ask them to provide the offer letter (they said they will only send offer letter once I provided my information when I first asked)?

How to phrase it such that I would like to move forward with the offer but do not explicitly mentioned accept offer?

I also do have some queries for clarification but do not receive any reply yet since it is holiday (but they expect me to answer on Sunday)?

If I have not signed the contract but acknowledge acceptance in email, can I still reject it?

  1. Some companies ask for verbal acceptance for whatever reason. You can still argue on grounds that the contract is not what you had thought. Alternatively “I am interested in moving ahead, but I would need to see the contract first to formally accept” might work I guess.
  2. I’ll give you a neutral POV as a hiring manager:
-Short timeframe to get back as they really like you and don’t want to lose you to other companies (since you are still looking around like you mentioned)
-Red flag that this job can be shitty and they want someone in asap. And no negotiation can means they are inflexible
-If you are not excited about this job offer and still want to look around, maybe this job is not what you want. Accepting an offer only to withdraw it when you find something better will tarnish your own reputation.
-Never sit on a job offer for more than a week. The hiring team will definitely move on to the next candidate because it means they are not your first choice. By the time you regret and want this job, they might have gave the job to another person.
-Singapore is very small and words can spread. I have seen some good candidates but when I asked a common friend who used to work in the same company as him before, the feedback was horrible. Totally not what he appears during interview. Will I give the person a chance? Definitely not because you just can never know from a 1 hour interview if the person will work and have the same attitude in their daily job.
  3. Once verbal acceptance is provided, the company will kick start the chain of activities leading up to your onboarding, starting with preparation of your context. If you rescind your verbal offer, no harm no foul I guess other than cresting extra admin work for someone.
  4. Firstly- it’s a huge red flag if they have people working on weekends.
Another red flag that they are only giving you 3 days. I usually tell future employers I’ll need 1-2 weeks to consider an offer.
    Anyway, good luck
