Taiwanese model and actress Lin Chi-ling has recently made the decision to step away from her career in show business. Her primary focus now is on her family life and fulfilling her role as a devoted mother.
In January 2022, the 48-year-old Lin joyfully announced the birth of her son. This momentous occasion came three years after she married her Japanese husband, Ryohei Kurosawa, who is known by his stage name Akira.
During an episode of “The Echo of Life,” a popular docuseries hosted by Taiwanese host Kevin Tsai, Lin shared her heartfelt decision to retire from the entertainment industry. In this series, Tsai spends a day with celebrities, engaging in intimate conversations about their lives.
During the interview, Tsai questioned Lin about her plans to return to show business once her son grows older and requires less of her attention. To Tsai’s surprise, Lin shook her head, indicating that she had firmly made up her mind not to make a comeback.
Amid Tsai’s disbelief, he sought confirmation from Lin, ensuring that she was resolute in her decision. Lin reiterated her stance, emphasizing that she envisions a future where her son will no longer rely on her as much. She expressed that her age, combined with her son’s growth, played a significant role in her choice.
Tsai, however, expressed his belief that age should not be a deterrent and suggested that Lin could potentially make a return to show business even 15 years later. Lin’s reaction to his suggestion was one of astonishment, as depicted in a screenshot from the interview.
She then shared her hope that she would always be remembered as the vibrant and cheerful Lin Chi-ling, even as time passes and her hair turns grey. Lin expressed her desire for people to remember the version of herself with youthful energy and warmth.
Tsai countered Lin’s sentiment, suggesting that she might change her mind in the future, highlighting examples of other women who continue modelling despite their grey hair. In response, Lin indicated that she might explore other areas, such as philanthropy, to remain connected with society. She emphasized that her future public appearances would depend on the purpose behind them.
If the purpose of her public appearance was for charitable causes, Lin expressed a willingness to consider returning to the spotlight. However, if the intention was merely to compare her beauty with other celebrities, she saw no necessity in participating. Lin believed that such comparisons were no longer relevant at this stage of her life.
Since the birth of her son, Lin has already reduced her public appearances significantly. In October 2022, during a product launch event, she hinted at her retirement from the entertainment industry, stating that her family would be her priority for the foreseeable future. Mirror Media, a Taiwanese news outlet, reported on her remarks.
Lin Chi-ling’s decision to retire from show business stems from her desire to focus on her family life and cherish her role as a mother. While she may step away from the limelight, her legacy as a beloved and radiant figure in the hearts of her audience remains.
