The incident took place at a hotel where the victims had checked in, and their valuables vanished mysteriously. This article will delve into the details of the incident, the victims’ experience, and the subsequent actions taken.

On April 26 of this year, two families arrived at a hotel in Kanchanaburi for a brief getaway. Little did they know that their stay would turn into a nightmare.

The victims, identified as Asana “Por” Kaenkaew and his family, had traveled from the southern province of Songkhla to visit Por’s younger brother in Kanchanaburi.

Upon checking in, they settled into their room without any security concerns, given its proximity to the hotel’s security guard station and the bustling roadside.

The following morning, Por and his wife woke up to a shocking revelation. Their daughter, who would usually wake up during the night, had slept undisturbed.

It was then that they noticed their assets were missing. A gold necklace, gold ring, diamond ring, valuable amulets, and a significant amount of cash, totaling 710,000 baht (or SGD$27,383), had vanished without a trace.

Alarmed by their discovery, Por and his wife hurriedly searched their room and even checked their car, hoping they had misplaced their belongings.

To their dismay, they encountered another victim, Pinyo, staying in the adjacent room, who confirmed that his wallet and 7,000 baht in cash had also been stolen.

As Por and Pinyo joined forces to investigate further, they stumbled upon a startling revelation. Hidden within their rooms were secret doors that were cleverly disguised as mirrors from the inside but revealed their true nature when viewed from the outside.

These doors were equipped with locks on the outer side, suggesting a well-thought-out plan by the thief.

The victims expressed their dissatisfaction with the hotel management, accusing them of failing to disclose the existence of these secret doors during the check-in process.

However, the hotel owner provided a surprising explanation. He claimed that the secret doors were intentionally installed as escape routes for mistresses involved in illicit affairs, providing a controversial twist to the incident.

Frustrated with the lack of progress in their case, Por and his family decided to seek help from Thai media agencies on June 16.

They hoped that media exposure would put pressure on the authorities to investigate the matter more thoroughly and bring the culprits to justice.

Despite the media attention, the hotel management refused to take responsibility for the losses suffered by the victims. They argued that there was no concrete evidence to prove the existence of the stolen assets, attempting to shift the blame onto the victims themselves.

In response, Por highlighted that officers from the Mueang Kanchanaburi Police Station had visited the crime scene, collected evidence such as footprints and fingerprints left on the secret doors and air conditioning compressors, yet failed to provide any updates on the case, leaving the victims in a state of distress and uncertainty.
