In a deeply disturbing case, the Ministry of Education (MOE) has taken swift action by suspending a primary school teacher, Kenneth Seah Wei Yuan, following allegations of engaging in obscene activities with at least two underage girls.
34-year-old Kenneth Seah Wei Yuan has been suspended by MOE since early July and is facing 5 charges that include allegedly having intercourse with at least 2 underage girls, aged 14 and 15, at staircase landings, according to The Straits Times.
Details of the Offenses
On February 2nd, Seah allegedly had intercourse with a 15-year-old girl at a staircase landing in a block of flats in Choa Chu Kang.
Subsequently, he is accused of committing a similar act with another 15-year-old girl at the same staircase the following month, although it has yet to be determined if both cases involved the same girl as information about the alleged victims were redacted from court documents.
In a separate incident, Seah allegedly got in touch with a 13-year-old girl on several occasions before meeting her on May 17th and he now faces the charge of grooming a minor below the age of 16, although it was not disclosed what he did when he met the alleged victim.
Furthermore, on June 26th, he allegedly had intercourse with a 14-year-old girl at a staircase landing in a block of flats in Bishan.
During this encounter, Seah is charged with producing obscene material involving children by recording two videos of them having intercourse there.
MOE’s response
The MOE has expressed its commitment to upholding high standards of conduct and discipline among its staff members.
In a statement, the ministry made it clear that it takes staff misconduct seriously and will not hesitate to impose disciplinary actions, including dismissal from service.
The allegations against Kenneth Seah Wei Yuan are grave, and if convicted, he may face severe penalties, including imprisonment for up to 10 years and fines for each count of engaging in obscene activities with a minor.
