The decomposing body of a 34-year-old male delivery driver was discovered in a white vehicle on the morning of August 7 at a car park near Apollo Gardens, a condominium nestled along Upper Changi Road, according to Shin Min Daily News.
A brown liquid was oozing out from the driver’s seat of the vehicle, filling the air with a nauseating odor that lingered around the vicinity. The strong, foul smell immediately caught the attention of both residents and authorities.
The alarm was initially raised by a resident of the condominium, identified as Mr. Zhang, who was told by his neighbours about the police presence outside the condo.
As Mr. Zhang ventured out to investigate, he was met with a perplexing scene: police officers meticulously examining a white vehicle.
After rummaging through the contents of the car, the officers retrieved the lifeless body. Mr. Zhang recounted the scene, stating that the overpowering foul smell was an immediate indication that something was amiss.
The police proceeded to remove a spectacle box and a wallet from the vehicle, carefully placing them on a nearby grass patch for documentation purposes.
As the morning unfolded, the enigma surrounding the incident deepened. At approximately 11:50am, a towing truck was summoned to the scene to haul away the vehicle.
Another resident, Mr. Zhu, disclosed that he had seen a man seated in the driver’s seat as he walked past the vehicle on that Monday morning and was struck by an unpleasant odor emanating from the car.
Lingering Smells and Missed Signs
Adding a layer of complexity to the situation, a domestic helper residing in the condominium revealed that she had noticed a noxious smell several days prior to the discovery.
Approximately three to seven days before the incident, the smell had pervaded the air, prompting her to investigate its origin.
She recounted that while the stench was absent within the confines of her flat, a distinct odor akin to that of a deceased rodent wafted through the outdoor air.
The Singapore Police Force confirmed the case of the unnatural death along Upper Changi Road, the authorities revealed that a 34-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations, however, have not raised suspicions of foul play, and investigations into the man’s death are currently underway.
Grief and Disbelief: A Family’s Tale
In the wake of the shocking discovery, the deceased man’s relatives came forward to share their grief and disbelief. The man was identified as a delivery personnel, known to his loved ones as a dedicated worker. On the morning of August 8, the family gathered at the mortuary to claim the body of their departed kin.
The man’s elder sister, revealed that her brother’s sudden passing had left the entire family in a state of shock. Recounting their interactions, she mentioned that her brother had a habit of occasionally staying over at a friend’s place, which might explain his intermittent contact.
Lamenting the absence of any known medical conditions in the family, the sister expressed uncertainty regarding the cause of her brother’s untimely demise.
She acknowledged that their understanding of the situation would only be complete after the police concluded their investigation and released their findings.
