In a heart-wrenching incident that occurred on the 13th of September, a four-year-old girl tragically drowned in a swimming pool at an apartment complex in Selangor, Malaysia, according to China Press.
What makes this case even more distressing is the fact that her 26-year-old stepbrother, who was present during the incident, did nothing to help her. Instead, he just watched her drown to her death while sipping on his drink.
The Initial Joy Turns to Tragedy
The incident took place at approximately 3 pm on that day in Bangi, Selangor. CCTV footage revealed the surroundings of an apartment swimming pool where the young victim, a four-year-old girl, was enjoying her time in the water with the assistance of a float.
At first, she seemed to be having a delightful time, playing by herself, and confidently using the pool steps to venture deeper into the water.
However, tragedy struck when she attempted to kick off from the pool steps once more. In a horrifying twist of fate, she lost her balance, toppled upside down, and slipped out of her float.
A Shocking Lack of Response
As the young girl struggled in the water, frantically trying to stay afloat, her float drifted away from her. It was at this critical juncture that her stepbrother, a 26-year-old young man, approached the poolside. What is even more distressing is his inexplicable lack of action.
Instead of rushing to her aid or seeking help, the stepbrother stood by the edge of the pool, seemingly unmoved by the dire situation unfolding before him. He did not exhibit any visible signs of concern or urgency to help her.
As the child’s lifeless body sank deeper into the water, he astonishingly raised a drink to his lips, appearing to take a sip.
Even as the young girl’s body eventually floated face-down in the pool, the stepbrother merely walked closer to the edge, squatted down, and extended his hand, as if he intended to play with the water, like a psychopath.
A Race Against Time
Fortunately, a technician who was present at the scene, leaped into the pool, swiftly retrieving the unconscious child from the water. CPR was administered, and an ambulance was promptly summoned.
Despite the efforts to revive her, the young victim remained in an unconscious state. Tragically, at about 1pm the next day, she passed away.
Initially classified as a case of sudden death by drowning, the incident took a drastic turn following a comprehensive review of the CCTV footage.
The authorities subsequently arrested the 26-year-old.
